A New Approach for Running (02/05/2011)

YOUR LIFE  STARTS  HERE.  YOU  COMING ?
Since the start of this experiment under the "Run2Forget" program in  January this year I have covered  a distance of about 140 km, (give or take) on the treadmill at my gym ( GOLDS GYM). Though the figure appears to be  not so impressive considering this is done over a period of 4 months, the whole exercise gave me the will and motivation to push ahead. I will consider work done or distance covered till now ( Level I)  as a sort of warm-up for the next Level.
So, starting May, that is the current month we proceed with  Phase II of this operation. To make this more interesting we will now be doing inter Towns/City runs. Guidelines for the same are as follows
  • Choose Two Cities/Towns/Village/Checkpoints from anywhere in the world !
  • Find out the distance between the Two ( easily done on the net!)
  • Find out possible stops/towns  on the route along with their distance.( this may need a little research)
  • Choose a starting point and start running.
  • Report as you cover your distances.
Remember that your actual running is done on the treadmill at the gym/neighborhood, but your calculations and imaginations are on the route. Hence the name ' The Route Not Taken!'  One can update the distance covered as the days progresses mentioning a little bit of places on the route etc. I am quite excited like a little boy at the prospect of this exercise. And, now for me  to choose a route for myself !  if anyone is doing the same I wish them good luck!

Running Away your "Bokali Blues"

Today, I am basking under the feel good thought  of something that I had done two days ago. And that is the act of running continuously over One Hour  covering a distance of 11 km on the treadmill. This for me gives me a lot of satisfaction  as it represented something which I thought I couldn't do. I have been on and off ( mostly off!) the gym over a number of  years. But, one thing I was not able to do was to run for long time at a stretch.

It all started in January this year. By then I have met Mr.Puru the Guru who was attempting  to run the Mumbai Marathon (which he eventually did - congratulations!). He told me about the existence of a book called  " The Non-Runner's Marathon Trainer" by David A. Whitsett ( not available easily around here- I got my copy much later when my sister came back from the States!). This book says that anyone can run the marathon. In the absence of the book Mr.Puru the Guru was kind enough to give me a chart which he had modified for a Half Marathon.

As you can see, I did the first 5 runs and then stopped as I had to travel. But I was happy to know that I can run 4 Km at a stretch and was confident that this chart will work. I had promised myself that will definitely try this again when I prepare for a marathon (or half).
I began running again in March all the way till now averaging about only 2 times a week. But this time I am not following any routine.

GOALS:
  • Run 12 km. at a stretch effortlessly.
  • Cover 40 km. every week.
  • Reduce Body Fat Percentage to about 12%
  • Run a Marathon.
Still a long way to go, will keep at it.
Hopefully, at the end it may all come down to this (below).
Perseverance and Relentlessness required.
